About the Deputy Regional Administrator for EPA's Region 8 (Mountains and Plains)

Mark Smith

Mark was appointed as Deputy Regional Administrator (DRA) for EPA's Region 8 office located in Denver, Colorado in 2022.

Mark started his federal career as an intern with EPA progressing to serve in senior leadership roles over his 33-year EPA career, including multiple Senior Executive Service (SES) positions spanning both EPA Region 7 (Kansas City) and Region 8 (Denver). Mark has also worked in the EPA Headquarters office (DC) and for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Mark is a proud Jayhawk with an Environmental Studies degree from the University of Kansas.
