What brought you to EPA?
Growing up in the Caribbean, I enjoyed pristine beaches, abundant tropical fruits, and colorful flowers and trees. I was always interested in the environment. I joined the agency in 1998 as part of its intern program.
What type of work do you do at EPA?
As the director for the Office of Program Management, I'm responsible for the office's information management systems, and related review functions. I'm also responsible for the office's budget and contracts.
What is your highest level of education? What was your major?
I have a masters in public administration. As an undergrad, I majored in political science.
What message would you like to send other Black/African Americans who are considering college or a career in environmental protection?
I recommend that Black/African American students become leaders in the environmental arena. Unfortunately, not everyone gets to enjoy our environment in the same way, especially those who live in low-income areas or communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by pollution.
Take the first steps by graduating from high school, volunteering in your community, and pursuing a college education. We need you, as the next generation of leaders, to make the world a healthier and better place for all. Yes, you can make a difference. Come help us protect the environment!
