Join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PETA Science Consortium International (PSCI), Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), and California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. EST for a webinar on the use of new approach methodologies (NAMs), or alternative methods to testing on vertebrate animals for chemical risk assessments.  

In August 2023, EPA announced it would host a quarterly webinar series in collaboration with PSCI, IIVS and CDPR on the use of NAMs. This webinar, Establishing Confidence in New Approach Methodologies (NAMs): An ICCVAM Report and a Case Study Using Branched Carboxylic Acids, is the third webinar in that series. 

The presenters for this webinar are Elijah Petersen, Ph.D., from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Corie Ellison, Ph.D. , from Procter and Gamble. Dr. Petersen is a member of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods workgroup developing a report titled “Validation, Qualification, and Regulatory Acceptance of New Approach Methods”. Together with Dr. Ellison, the two will present a case study using a combination of NAMs to compare potential developmental toxicity of different branched carboxylic acids.  Branched carboxylic acids have a wide variety of uses, including in the production of lubricants, plastics and other products.
