Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) Universe of Chemicals

Related Information

  • Second List of Chemicals for Initial Screening - Federal Register Notice

The Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) Universe of Chemicals and General Validation Principles document was developed in response to recommendations from the Office of Inspector General. It provides an overview of the general validation principles that will be used to evaluate computational toxicological methods for chemical prioritization and includes a list of chemicals that EDSP plans to screen.

Learn more about how EDSP is using high throughput assays and computational toxicological methods.

EPA has also presented the EDSP Universe of Chemicals as a separate document, which will be updated as new information becomes available. The List of the EDSP Universe of Chemicals contains approximately 10,000 chemicals, as defined under FFDCA and SDWA 1996 amendments, although not all of the chemicals are expected to undergo EDSP Tier 1 screening. EPA plans to screen these chemicals using high-throughput screening assays and computational models, as they are developed and validated. Currently, EPA has screened 1800 chemicals for estrogen receptor bioactivity.

These methods and tools are also being evaluated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for their utilization in chemical prioritization/screening; these methods were the focus of a December 2014 FIFRA Scientific Advisory Panel meeting.
