The Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) has recycled 233,950 pounds of materials through their “Recycling Roundup” project funded by the Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem Solving Cooperative Agreement program (EJCPS). To date, TEC has performed ten “Recycling Roundup” events across the state of Tennessee, including events in North Nashville, Clarksville, Memphis, Robbins, Ripley, and Camden. At these events, TEC gathers and properly recycles difficult to recycle items and materials like electronics, mattresses, textiles, ink cartridges, and tires, thus reducing the amount of waste entering landfills around vulnerable, overburdened Tennessee communities. Learn more about the incredible impacts from their EJ grant on their website.

The Sundari Foundation, Inc. dba Lotus House Women’s Shelter: EJSG 2021 Awardee

The Sundari Foundation’s Lotus House, a women and children’s shelter in Miami, Florida, has used its $75,000 in EJ Small Grants funding to provide bi-weekly information, education, and job training to shelter residents to increase knowledge of COVID-19 prevention strategies.  Through this increased understanding of respiratory illness, prevention, and the importance of good indoor air quality, guests of Lotus House could improve their individual health and advance the collective health of the community. Lotus House educated 197 children experiencing homelessness about COVID-19, delivered bi-monthly print resources to over 250 women and youth experiencing homelessness to improve access to health information, helped 170 women, youth, and children experiencing homelessness to obtain COVID-19 testing, and inactivated airborne viruses and bacteria though the installation of UV air sanitizing systems. To learn more about their impressive impacts, please visit their website.
