In September 2013, the US Environmental Protection Agency/Region 4 Science and Ecosystem Support Division initiated a comprehensive sampling of the Florida Everglades as part of a recurring Everglades Ecosystem Assessment described in the next section. Due to a federal government shutdown during the sampling period, the project was not completed as planned.
