New Funding Available
On September 16, 2024, EPA announced two new funding opportunities. Find out more, including how to apply:
- $58 million for SWIFR grants for Communities.
- $20 million for SWIFR grants for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia.
2023 Grant Selectees and Recipients
EPA received 452 total applications in response to the SWIFR first-round funding opportunities totaling approximately $950.3 million in total funding requested.
- All 56 eligible states and territories requested funding under the non-competitive SWIFR States and Territories grants.
- 311 local governments applied for funding.
- 84 Tribes and intertribal consortia applied for funding.
On September 13, 2023, EPA announced the 25 selectees for the first round of the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grants for Communities and the 56 recipients of the recycling grants for States and Territories. Then, on November 15, 2023, EPA announced the 59 selectees for the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grants for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia. About the Grant Program
The Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant program is a new grant program authorized by the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act and funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides $275 million for Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grants to support Building a Better America. This is allocated as $55 million per year from Fiscal Years 2022 to 2026 to remain available until expended. EPA was provided an additional $2.5 million in FY 2022, an additional $6.5 million in FY 2023, and an additional $5 million in FY 2024 to implement the program.
The Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling program provides grants to implement the National Recycling Strategy to improve post-consumer materials management and infrastructure; support improvements to local post-consumer materials management and recycling programs; and assist local waste management authorities in making improvements to local waste management systems.
