Ecological Risk Assessment Support Center (ERASC)

The Ecological Risk Assessment Support Center (ERASC) provides technical information and support for ecological risk assessment at hazardous waste sites.

ERASC is one of EPA’s technical support and resource centers responsible for providing specialized scientific and engineering support to decision-makers in the EPA's program and ten regional offices. EPA’s regional offices work with states, communities, and local businesses within their area. These decision-makers include remedial project managers, corrective action staff, and on-scene coordinators.

What We Do

The ERASC provides technical information and addresses scientific questions of concern or interest on topics relevant to ecological risk assessment at hazardous waste sites for EPA's Office of Land and Emergency Management (OLEM) personnel and Regional Superfund/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) staff. ERASC provides site-specific technical assistance at:

  • Superfund,
  • RCRA,
  • brownfields, and
  • ecosystem restoration sites.

Requests are channeled to ERASC through EPA's Ecological Risk Assessment Forum and Superfund Technology Liaisons. To assess emerging and complex scientific issues that require expert judgment, the ERASC relies on the expertise of scientists and engineers located throughout EPA's Office of Research and Development labs and centers.
