Rule Summary

Industrial-commercial-institutional steam generating units are boilers that are capable of combusting over 10 MMBtu/h of fuel. The New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for industrial-commercial-institutional steam generating units are outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) under 40 CFR Part 60 Subparts Db and Dc. Subpart Db covers industrial-commercial-institutional steam generating units with heat inputs greater than 100 MMBtu/h of that commenced constructed after September 18, 1978. Subpart Dc covers smaller industrial-commercial-institutional steam generating units that commenced constructed after June 9, 1989. The key pollutants the EPA regulates from these sources includes particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur dioxide (SO2).
