Rule Summary
Nitric acid is used primarily in the production of explosives and fertilizers.
The New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for Nitric Acid Plants were initially promulgated in 1971. The NSPS was reviewed and the standard was updated on August 14, 2012. The NSPS regulates emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) from new, modified or reconstructed Nitric Acid Production Units.
