Rule Summary
This rule regulates new and existing refractory products manufacturing facilities requiring all major sources to meet HAP emission standards reflecting the application of maximum achievable control technology (MACT). The final rule protects air quality
and promotes the public health by reducing emissions of several HAP, including:
- ethylene glycol,
- formaldehyde,
- hydrogen fluoride (HF),
- hydrochloric acid (HCl),
- methanol,
- phenol, and
- polycyclic organic matter (POM).
The rule regulates emissions from the manufacturing processes for both clay and non-clay refractories.
