Title

California – Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement

Purpose

Provides grants to parcel(s) that are zoned for agricultural use, where unauthorized solid waste disposal has occurred, and where the site(s) are in need of cleanup in order to abate a nuisance or public health and safety threat and/or a threat to the environment.

Type of Assistance Grant
Eligible Applicants Eligible applicants are cities, counties, resource conservation districts, and federally recognized Native American Tribes in California.
Eligible Activities

A site may be eligible for cleanup funding if the parcel(s) is(are) zoned for agricultural use, where unauthorized solid waste disposal has occurred, and where the site(s) is(are) in need of cleanup in order to abate a nuisance or public health and safety threat and/or a threat to the environment. Since Tribal land is typically not zoned, contact Farm and Ranch Cleanup grant program for specifics about how farm and ranch definition is applied on Tribal land.

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to:

  • Waste removal and disposal.
  • Recycling.
  • Personnel to administer the grant.
  • Drainage control and grading improvement.
  • Slope and foundation stabilization.
  • Equipment rental.
  • Excavation.
  • Revegetation.
  • Site security.
  • Public education.
  • Removal of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC).
  • Administrative costs up to 7 percent of the cleanup costs expended.

Excluded Activities/Other Restrictions

Sites are not eligible for funding if the site is located on property where the owner or local agency is responsible for the illegal disposal.

Solicitation Process/Timeline

Application materials for fiscal year (FY) 2022-23 are due February 9, 2023.
