Purpose The Indian Housing Block Grant Program is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on Indian reservations and Indian areas.
Type of Assistance Formula Grant
Eligible Applicants Eligible recipients are federally recognized Indian Tribes or their Tribally designated housing entity, and a limited number of state recognized Tribes who were funded under the Indian Housing Program authorized by the United States Housing Act of 1937.
Eligible Activities Eligible activities include housing development, assistance to housing developed under the Indian Housing Program, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety, and model activities that provide creative approaches to solving affordable housing problems.

Solicitation Process/Timeline IHBG recipients use the Grants Evaluation and Management System to electronically submit an Indian Housing Plan to receive funding and complete an Annual Performance Report.
Proposal Elements/Scoring Criteria Funds appropriated by Congress for the Indian Housing Block Grant program are made available to eligible grant recipients through a formula. Regulations governing the formula can be found at 24 CFR Part 1000, Subpart D.
