Considering Cumulative Impacts at EPA

To fulfill its mission to protect human health and the environment, EPA must address cumulative impacts from exposure to multiple stressors. Below are steps and initiatives EPA has taken to address cumulative impacts.

 Interim Framework for Advancing Consideration of Cumulative Impacts

The Interim Framework for Advancing Consideration of Cumulative Impacts provides EPA with a foundation to incorporate analysis and consideration of cumulative impacts into programmatic work, with the goal of achieving results that improve peoples’ lives.

Equity Action Plan

The EPA Equity Action Plan includes eight priority strategies to advance equity, including "Reduce Cumulative Environmental and Health Impacts in Communities with Environmental Justice Concerns."

Cross-EPA Panel Convenes for Discussion on Cumulative Impacts Research and Regulatory Activities

In March 2023, five panelists from across EPA gathered for a public discussion moderated by ORD Assistant Administration Chris Frey to talk about the Agency’s research and regulatory activities on cumulative impacts. The panel demonstrated a whole-of-EPA approach to working as a team across programs and regions to address cumulative impacts.
