Models, Tools & Applications

EPA Science Models and Research Tools Search

EPA SMaRT Search is a searchable inventory of all freely available models, tools, and databases from EPA's Office of Research and Development. Using SMaRT Search, you can find all emergency response-related inventory or narrow your search for a specific focus area, such as waste management, agent/hazard type, or response phase.

Select Emergency Response Tools

Decision Support Tools for Incident Response

Managing waste resulting from disasters can be a complicated and resource intensive process, especially during large-scale incidents or severe hurricanes. EPA develops decision support tools to assist federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments with waste management decisions in the pre-planning, mitigation, response, and recovery phase of an incident.

Environmental Sampling and Analytical Methods Program

ESAM is a comprehensive program to facilitate a coordinated response following an intentional or accidental homeland security-related contamination incident. The ESAM website provides information that supports field and laboratory efforts to characterize contaminated sites and to remediate contamination.

Environmental Resilience Tools Wizard

The Environmental Resilience Tools Wizard addresses environmental concerns in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.  This tool includes scientific models, guidance documents, case studies, checklists, datasets, fact sheets, and technical support.

Equitable Resilience Builder

Increasing resilience to disasters and climate change is an increasing challenge for communities. The Equitable Resilience Builder (ERB) is an application that supports communities in resilience planning with a focus on equity. It engages users in a guided process to inclusively assess local hazards, equity, and the resilience of built, natural, and social environment systems. Results can be used to collaboratively prioritize actions to build community resilience in an equitable way.

Radiological Decontamination Query Tool

The Radiological Decontamination Query Tool provides first responders, emergency planners, residents, and others in the community with an easy-to-use comparison of methods that could be used for cleanup.

Radiological Recovery Logistics Tool

The Radiological Recovery Logistics Tool (RRLT) helps responders locate and use municipal and commercial equipment during the recovery timeline. The RRLT organizes information on equipment and assets that may be used to recover from a wide area release of radioactivity into the urban environment.

Water Modeling Tools for Decision Support

EPA has a variety of water modeling tools to help communities understand the impact of decisions related to designing, planning, treatment, optimizing, emergency response, or managing water infrastructure systems.
