The Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool (EJScreen) can be a preliminary screening step when considering EJ in certain situations. LMOP displays these data so that users can identify areas where LFG energy projects may warrant additional consideration, analysis or outreach that may affect communities.

The above LMOP map includes seven demographic indicators as well as two demographic indexes from EJScreen. The Demographic Index is based on the average of two of the indicators: low-income and people of color. The Supplemental Demographic Index is based on the average of four of the demographic indicators (low-income, unemployment rate, limited English speaking and less than high school education) and one health dataset factor for low life expectancy. LMOP displays these nine options on the map. Each indicator or index is displayed as a national percentile. For a place at the 80th percentile nationwide, that means 20 percent of the U.S. population has a higher value. If a user would like to incorporate state percentiles to see how a locality compares to other communities in that state, they can visit the EJScreen website.
